Things are changing, friends. They’re settling, which is a highly welcomed change.
2016 & 17 knocked me on my rear and at last life is taking on a new normal.
I had plans – BIG, fabulous ones for a radio show that morphed into a developing podcast; then the Lord unexpectedly plucked us from our home of 8 years in Louisiana and we high-tailed it up to my mom and stepdad’s house with 4 babies, one in the oven (whose precious life was threatened by Cholestasis), and a mutt in tow. My husband re-started his video production business here in the Midwest, another healthy Sciba was born in the spring, and we found our own place in my hometown of Omaha last summer.
In our whirlwind, I couldn’t tell which way was up. My anxiety and depression skyrocketed, leaving in a cloud of smoke all my plans and any sense I had of what the future was going to look like.
Predictability? GONE.
Certainty? *poof*
Stability? Just stop…
Ironically, in the blur of the last couple years, I’ve gained clarity for the modest ministry I’ve plugged away on since starting my blog nearly 9 years ago. And like a cult-classic, I have a New Hope and, if it’s all right with God this time, a new plan.
As of now, I’m continuing my primary service of speaking. It’s my greatest strength in my work, a huge delight to my soul, and a gift I’m humbled and grateful to share. I’m thrilled to introduce my retreat – Courageous & Captivating – written for us women (because I’m every bit of included in this) who need to remember that at our base, we’re brave and lovely, fully captivating, and worth loving; and that to really get this, we need deep intimacy with Jesus. Courageous & Captivating debuts in just a few short weeks at St. Monica’s Church near Oklahoma City(!!) and I’d be delighted to bring it home to you, too.
If your parish needs a retreat, if your event needs real honesty and faith peppered with a good laugh, or your youth group needs a revival, I’m your woman and ready to serve. But don’t take my word for it – you can read what others have to say.
I’ll still keep things up from time to time here at the new Katie Sciba site (still thecatholicwife.net for a while) and I’ll be more active on my Facebook page. My revised logo (below) features an anchor because I’m in love with all things nautical, but mostly because it’s the Christian symbol of HOPE. And hope is something we all have, whether or not we realize it; regardless of how closely we’re paying attention to Jesus, he – hope himself – is right there. It’s the fact that Jesus is staid amid the crashes tides, ready to calm the storm or ride it with us.
I’m praying for you all! God bless your remaining Christmas season and 2018. Please keep me among your intentions, that I’ll say and do what the Holy Spirit wills.
